About ERCS

Established in 1935, the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides emergency response, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and disaster risk reduction programs. With 14 regional branches, 40 zonal branches, 180 woreda branches, and nearly 6,000 Kebele Red Cross Committees, ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, IFRC, ICRC, and other humanitarian actors to build resilient communities.

Position: Accountant

Job Summary

Reporting to the Admin & Finance Manager, the Accountant will:

  • Prepare annual budgets, cash flow forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Compile budget implementation data, conduct variance analysis, and recommend actions.
  • Verify supporting documents and vouchers before payment and registration.
  • Perform journalizing, posting, adjusting entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Review petty cash records and prepare subsidiary ledger schedules.
  • Carry out inventory control and participate in stocktaking.
  • Assist external auditors with required documentation.
  • Prepare timely invoices, maintain stock records, and reconcile discrepancies.

Specific Duties

  • Formulate internal control policies for finance and administration.
  • Ensure timely deposits and withdrawals of pension funds.
  • Codify and register payments and receivables.
  • Operate accounting software and office machines for financial reporting.
  • Execute audit feedback and maintain reliable books of accounts.

Qualifications

  • Education: First or Second Degree in Accounting, Accounting & Finance, or Finance.
  • Experience: 4–6 years relevant work experience.
  • Skills: Proficiency in accounting software applications, strong analytical and reporting skills.
