Founded in 1935, the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides life‑saving services to communities affected by natural and man‑made disasters, including emergency response, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and disaster risk reduction programs.

With 14 regional branches, 40 zonal branches, 180 woreda branches, and over 5,800 Kebele Red Cross Committees, ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, IFRC, ICRC, partner National Societies, members, volunteers, and communities to build resilience and deliver humanitarian aid.


Position 1: WaSH Coordinator

Work Unit: Health and WaSH Department
Reports to: EC2R Health & WaSH Coordinator
Place of Work: Addis Ababa
Salary: As per organizational scale

Job Summary

The WaSH Coordinator will lead the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene interventions. Responsibilities include supervising technical staff, managing budgets, ensuring compliance with Sphere standards, and delivering high‑quality infrastructure projects such as water systems, latrines, and rehabilitation of health facilities.

Qualifications

  • Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Nursing, Health Promotion, Epidemiology, or related fields.
  • Minimum 7 years (Master’s) or 9 years (Bachelor’s) of experience, including 3–5 years in humanitarian WaSH programming at coordinator/managerial level.
  • Experience in solar‑powered water supply systems is highly desirable.
  • Previous Red Cross experience is an advantage.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of WaSH standards and humanitarian principles.
  • Excellent project management, decision‑making, and communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate gender, disability inclusion, and accountability in WaSH programming.

Position 2: Public Health Coordinator

Work Unit: Health and WaSH Department
Reports to: Health and WaSH Coordinator
Place of Work: Addis Ababa (HQ, with support to Amhara, Oromia, Benishangul‑Gumuz, and Tigray)
Salary: As per organizational scale

Job Summary

The Public Health Coordinator will provide technical leadership, coordination, and quality assurance for public health interventions under the EC2R Programme. The role focuses on disease prevention, outbreak preparedness, community health promotion, referral linkages, and WASH‑health integration in emergency and resilience contexts.

Qualifications

  • Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Nursing, Health Promotion, Epidemiology, or related fields.
  • Minimum 7 years (Master’s) or 9 years (Bachelor’s) of relevant experience in humanitarian/emergency health programming.
  • 3–5 years of experience coordinating health interventions in conflict, drought, or displacement settings.
  • Experience with donor‑funded programmes (FCDO preferred) and collaboration with government health structures.

Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of public health programming in emergencies.
  • Expertise in disease prevention, outbreak preparedness, and risk communication.
  • Excellent coordination, supervision, and analytical skills.
  • Strong report writing and documentation abilities.
