The Subregional Office for Eastern Africa (SFE), based in Addis Ababa, develops strategies for food security, agriculture, and rural development, while also serving as FAO’s representation to the African Union (AU) and UNECA.
Role Overview
The National Operations Officer provides operational support to FAO programmes and projects in Ethiopia and the subregion. The role focuses on programme development, coordination, and operational assistance, ensuring smooth project operations and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as focal point for daily operations of assigned field projects
- Contribute to preparation and assessment of new programme/project proposals
- Plan and prepare project task force consultations and provide secretarial support
- Ensure timely provision of personnel, technical services, training, and equipment
- Monitor project work plans, budgets, and identify corrective measures
- Coordinate preparation of project progress and terminal reports
- Manage project closure and follow‑up requirements
- Maintain quality data/documentation in FAO’s Field Programme Management Information System (FPMIS)
- Provide guidance to project staff and operational partners
- Support Operational Partners Implementation Modality (OPIM) package preparation and approval
- Monitor disbursements, financial/narrative reports, audits, and spot checks
- Support training and knowledge‑sharing events
Minimum Requirements
- National of Ethiopia
- Advanced university degree in business or public administration
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in office management, administration, accounting/audit, budget, or finance
- Proficiency in English and Amharic (Level C)
