Internship Overview

ILRI is seeking a motivated Architecture or Engineering Intern to join the Facilities & Project Management Unit in Addis Ababa. The intern will support renovation, infrastructure improvement, and maintenance optimization projects across the ILRI campus. This role provides hands-on experience in design review, documentation, site coordination, and project tracking, helping improve efficiency and quality control.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Drawing Support
    • Prepare layouts, space planning options, and technical drawings using AutoCAD.
    • Review consultant and contractor drawings for accuracy and constructability.
    • Assist in presentation drawings and technical documentation.
  • Quantity Take-off & Costing
    • Prepare basic Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for renovation works.
    • Conduct measurements and quantity take-offs from drawings.
    • Review contractor payment certificates and quotations under supervision.
  • Site Coordination & Documentation
    • Participate in site visits, inspections, and maintenance supervision.
    • Document progress with photos, notes, and reports.
    • Prepare punch lists and track contractor follow-ups.
  • Project Records & Data Management
    • Organize digital and hard-copy project documentation.
    • Maintain drawing registers and as-built records.
    • Consolidate campus building data into a master sheet.
    • Review and update preventive maintenance lists.

Candidate Requirements

  • Current undergraduate student in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology/Management, or related fields.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (mandatory).
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of construction materials and site practices.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel preferred for BOQ support).
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to participate in site activities and field inspections.

Internship Details

  • Location: ILRI Campus, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
  • Duration: 6 months (April 1 – September 30, 2026)
  • Compensation: Monthly stipend and medical insurance provided
