Role Overview

ILRI is seeking an experienced and visionary Knowledge Management Lead to drive how ILRI curates, synthesizes, publishes, and mobilizes evidence to inform policy, investment, and practice in low‑ and middle‑income countries. This senior leadership role sits at the intersection of science, policy, publishing, and digital innovation, shaping how ILRI presents its science and informs stakeholders under its 2025–2030 strategy.

The position will be based in Addis Ababa and will lead ILRI’s knowledge management functions within the Communications, Advocacy and Knowledge Management (CAKM) team. The post holder will oversee publishing and repository services, strengthen internal knowledge‑sharing practices, and spearhead AI‑enabled approaches to transform how ILRI manages and delivers knowledge at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead evidence synthesis and flagship publications, including ILRI’s annual flagship report.
• Provide strategic guidance on editorial quality, consistency, and branding.
• Oversee publishing workflows, peer review, and open‑access compliance.
• Manage ILRI’s institutional knowledge services (CGSpace, repositories, data platforms).
• Drive innovations in metadata, indexing, and analytics.
• Pilot AI‑driven approaches to transform knowledge workflows and content curation.
• Strengthen internal knowledge‑sharing practices and support CAKM operations in Addis.
• Collaborate with advocacy and communication teams to ensure demand‑led knowledge products.

Requirements

• Master’s in Knowledge Management, Publishing, Information Science, Communications, or agriculture/livestock related fields; PhD preferred.
• At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management, publishing, or evidence synthesis.
• Proven track record in managing flagship publications and policy reports.
• Expertise in open‑access publishing, repositories, and digital knowledge platforms.
• Familiarity with AI and digital innovations for knowledge management.
• Strong project management, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills in English; proficiency in French or another international language is an advantage.
• Strategic thinking and leadership in team management and capacity development.

Terms of Appointment

This position is offered at job level HG 18. It is open to both national and international applicants. The contract is for three years, renewable subject to performance and funding. ILRI offers a competitive international salary and benefits package, including pension, medical insurance, life insurance, and allowances for education, housing, security, relocation, and home leave.
