UN Women Ethiopia is seeking applications for the position of Communications and Advocacy Analyst in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, starting in 2026. Job Overview

Position: Communications and Advocacy Analyst
Employment Type: Full-time, Regular Assignment
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Reporting directly to the Country Representative, the Communications and Advocacy Analyst will assist in planning and implementing the Country Office’s Partnership, Communications, and Resource Mobilization Strategy. The role involves close collaboration with programme and operations teams, UN communications groups, government officials, media, donors, and civil society partners.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support planning and design of external communication and advocacy strategies.
  • Integrate communication and outreach strategies into project proposals and initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze print and social media; provide reports and insights.
  • Contribute to the launch of UN Women and UN system campaigns and events.
  • Draft and disseminate briefing materials, press releases, and advocacy content.
  • Identify storylines and coordinate translation, adaptation, and dissemination of publications.
  • Manage media relations, including press conferences and roundtable discussions.
  • Draft talking points for senior management media engagements.
  • Maintain partnerships with donors, civil society, and advocacy partners.
  • Coordinate the Country Office’s website and social media presence.
  • Upload updates and resources to knowledge management systems.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, training, and workshops on communications and advocacy.
  • Support branding and design of knowledge products to ensure visibility.
  • Perform other duties as required for effective office operations.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Master’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with proven experience may be considered.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience with a Master’s degree.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or advocacy at national or international level with a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in social media management (required).
  • Experience with office software (MS Word, Excel) and web-based management systems (required).
  • Proven skills in graphic design and Adobe Suite (required).
  • Experience in photography, video production, and ERP systems (preferably Oracle Cloud) is desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and outreach strategies.
  • Familiarity with production, graphic design, and photography standards.
  • Knowledge of local media landscape.
  • Strategic communication, networking, and advocacy skills.
  • Analytical and gender-sensitive communication abilities.

Languages

  • Fluency in English and Amharic (required).
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable.
