Since 2004, GIZ has partnered with the African Union (AU) to enhance inclusive growth and sustainable development in line with Agenda 2063. With around 250 staff, GIZ AU works with the AU Commission, AUDA-NEPAD, and other institutions across more than 40 member states.
Internship Projects
Applicants must indicate the project they are applying for:
Project 1: Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (HMCCC – AUC Component)
- Conduct desk research and short analyses on climate change, migration, disaster risk reduction, and policy frameworks.
- Document programme activities, draft summaries, and presentations.
- Support workshops and meetings with logistics and documentation.
- Contribute to knowledge management and communication tasks, including social media updates.
Project 2: Global Energy Transition Program (GET.PRO – AEEP Secretariat)
- Support organization of the bi-continental AEEP Forum and other high-level events.
- Assist with AEEP Energy Talks and partner events (online and onsite).
- Draft communication materials: press releases, articles, newsletters.
- Maintain and update AEEP website and social media channels.
- Conduct background research and monitor media coverage.
Project 3: Accelerating the Energy Transition in Africa (ENGAGE – GET.transform Africa Regional Window)
- Support coordination of activities with AU institutions, power pools, and regulators.
- Conduct background research and prepare briefing materials.
- Track project activities and compile progress summaries.
- Assist with documentation and administrative processes for consulting contracts.
- Support workshops, seminars, and stakeholder meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Climate Change, Migration Studies, Development Studies, Communications, Social or Political Sciences, Economics, Law, Public Policy, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
- Fresh graduates encouraged; practical experience not required but theoretical knowledge in climate change, migration, or disaster risk reduction expected.
- Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and research skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with digital tools.
- Interest in climate change, human mobility, and African integration processes.
- Ability to work in a team, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Required Skills
- Ability to build lasting relationships.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office, email).
