About the Job

Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD) is a non‑profit, indigenous civil society organization established in 1999 to improve the health, wellbeing, and socio‑economic status of communities across Ethiopia. MSD implements evidence‑based programs in health and nutrition, education, livelihoods, migration, child care, human rights, humanitarian response, and environmental sustainability.

In collaboration with Jhpiego, MSD is implementing the Reaching Impact Saturation and Epidemic Control (RISE) Project, a one‑year initiative aimed at strengthening maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition (MNCHN), improving infection prevention and control (IPC), and enhancing health security across Ethiopia.

MSD seeks a qualified M&E Officer to monitor project progress, ensure data quality, and support evidence‑based decision‑making.


Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Project Coordinator and MEAL Director, the M&E Officer will design and implement monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) activities for the RISE Project. Responsibilities include tracking outputs, outcomes, and impacts, preparing reports, maintaining data quality, and supporting project teams in Lalibela.


Roles and Responsibilities

MEAL Tool Development & Data Management

  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation systems to track project results.
  • Create and maintain an integrated project database with regular updates.
  • Ensure accountability and data integrity in collaboration with project teams.
  • Review and improve data collection tools.
  • Conduct routine data quality audits and joint supportive supervision.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Collect, verify, clean, and input project data from teams and partners.
  • Maintain and update the integrated indicator tracker.
  • Develop M&E plans and ensure adherence during implementation.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for MSD and Jhpiego.
  • Guide teams in collecting qualitative data, including audio‑visual materials.

Assessment, Survey & Evaluation

  • Initiate baseline surveys and evaluations in line with MSD’s MEAL framework.
  • Share lessons learned and provide constructive feedback to improve program quality.
  • Build staff capacity through training and technical assistance.
  • Collect feedback, complaints, and recommendations from stakeholders.

Implementation Support

  • Perform additional tasks as required by the Project Coordinator.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, public health, development studies, economics, or related field (Master’s degree is an asset).
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience, particularly in MNCH and nutrition projects.
  • Strong knowledge of MNCH, nutrition principles, and primary health care.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools (Excel, SPSS, STATA).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to conduct intensive fieldwork in remote areas.
  • No history of sexual exploitation, abuse, or harassment (SEAH).
