🔹 About FAO
FAO supports the 2030 Agenda through its Strategic Framework, promoting efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems. FAO Ethiopia is currently implementing the EU-funded project “Strengthening Agrifood System for Safe and Healthy Diets (Safe and Diverse)”, which focuses on food safety, seed accessibility, and nutrition improvement.
🔹 Job Summary
The National Food Safety Expert will support FAO Ethiopia’s nutrition projects, particularly the food safety component of the Safe and Diverse project. The expert will coordinate implementation, strengthen partnerships, and provide technical expertise to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Ethiopian Agricultural Authority (EAA), academia, and other partners.
🔹 Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and ensure timely implementation of food safety components in FAO projects.

Support the Ministry of Agriculture in implementing the National Food Safety and Quality Strategy.

Provide technical backstopping for food safety surveys, research, and capacity building.

Strengthen coordination between MoA, EFDA, MOH, IES, and other relevant actors.

Prepare high-quality technical reports (including donor reports).

Establish a food safety investment profile for FAO Ethiopia.

Identify opportunities for partnerships and collaboration in food safety.

Lead food safety-related project activities and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.
🔹 Minimum Requirements
-
Advanced university degree in nutrition, food science, or food safety.

10+ years of technical experience in nutrition-sensitive agrifood systems and food safety.

Proven experience in national policy/strategy development and large-scale program implementation.

At least 10 years of experience in team management, preferably with UN or government programs.

Strong knowledge of the Ethiopian agricultural sector.

Working knowledge of English and Amharic (or other major local languages).

Must be an Ethiopian national.

Strong analytical skills (especially dietary pattern analysis).

Experience in nutrition in emergencies is a plus.
