The organization operates across Ethiopia, delivering integrated humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding interventions. Its programs span WASH, health and nutrition, protection, education, emergency shelter/NFI, food security, livelihoods, and peacebuilding.
Project Background
In partnership with Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI) and funded by SIDA, Nexus Ethiopia is implementing the WASH component of the project “Integrated Health, Nutrition, WASH and Protection Support to Conflict‑Affected Populations in Amhara and Benishangul‑Gumuz Regions.” The WASH intervention targets vulnerable host communities, IDPs, returnees, and crisis‑affected households in Kurmuk Woreda.
Position: WASH Officer
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, implement, and supervise WASH activities in Kurmuk Woreda
- Lead rehabilitation of shallow water schemes and supervise technical works
- Coordinate distribution of WASH NFIs and hygiene promotion campaigns
- Establish and strengthen WASH Committees (WASHCOs) and train community hygiene promoters
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements, Nexus Ethiopia policies, and government standards
- Collect and report activity data, prepare weekly/monthly reports, and support MEAL activities
- Represent Nexus Ethiopia in woreda‑level coordination meetings and maintain stakeholder engagement
- Promote safeguarding, accountability, PSEA, and Do‑No‑Harm principles across all activities
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Water Supply & Sanitation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Health, or Environmental Science (Master’s degree an asset)
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in WASH programming (NGO/humanitarian preferred)
- At least 2 years in rural water supply rehabilitation, hand pump/shallow well maintenance, WASH NFI distribution, or hygiene promotion
- Experience with BoQs, technical specifications, site supervision, and WASH activity reporting
- Strong knowledge of rural water supply systems, hygiene promotion, and community‑based WASH management
- Excellent communication skills in English and Amharic; knowledge of local languages in Benishangul‑Gumuz is an advantage
- Ability to work under pressure, travel frequently, and deliver results within tight timelines
