Job Summary

The Community Health Worker (Case Worker) is a vital, community-based role responsible for identifying and supporting conflict-affected individuals, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors and those with mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) needs. Case Workers provide immediate non-specialized support such as Psychological First Aid (PFA), facilitate safe referrals, and lead community awareness and prevention activities.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Outreach & Case Identification
    • Conduct culturally appropriate community outreach to identify individuals at risk.
    • Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) and emotional support.
    • Conduct initial needs assessments for safety, health, and psychosocial support.
  2. Safe Referrals & Accompaniment
    • Facilitate safe, confidential referrals to health, legal, and protection services.
    • Accompany GBV survivors to clinics, police, or shelters when requested.
  3. Community Engagement
    • Lead awareness sessions on GBV prevention, coping mechanisms, and stress management.
    • Mobilize community leaders and groups to challenge harmful gender norms.
    • Disseminate accurate information on available services and referral pathways.
  4. Reporting & Coordination
    • Maintain secure, confidential client records.
    • Submit timely activity reports and participate in case management meetings.
    • Document lessons learned and feedback from communities.

Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma or certificate in Clinical Nursing, Public Health, Psychiatric Nursing, or related fields.
  • Experience: 1–2 years as a Community Health Worker, Mobilizer, or Case Worker, preferably in GBV or health projects. Experience in conflict-affected or emergency settings is an advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Trustworthiness, empathy, and confidentiality.
    • Knowledge of GBV/MHPSS case management principles.
    • Ability to deliver Psychological First Aid (PFA).
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Local language fluency and deep understanding of community dynamics.
