PIN has been operating in Ethiopia since 2003, implementing projects in education, agriculture, climate and environment, water, and social protection. PIN is part of Alliance 2015, a strategic network of European NGOs working in humanitarian aid and development.
Position: Market System Development Officer
Purpose of the Role
The MSD Officer plays a critical role in implementing the EMPOWER Project, a European Commission‑funded initiative aimed at enhancing economic self‑reliance, sustainable livelihoods, and climate‑resilient market integration for vulnerable populations, especially women and youth in Borena and West Guji Zones.
Key Responsibilities

Market Systems Analysis & Livelihoods Facilitation: Conduct market mapping, value chain assessments, and facilitate inclusion of women and youth.

Private Sector Engagement: Build partnerships with suppliers, buyers, and off‑takers; strengthen market linkages.

Enterprise Capacity Building: Provide business coaching, financial literacy training, and support SMEs/VSLAs/SACCOs.

Financial Inclusion: Coordinate with financial institutions, simplify loan processes, and manage follow‑ups.

Team Coordination & Reporting: Manage field operations, ensure donor compliance, and submit regular progress reports.

Safeguarding: Adhere to PIN’s Code of Conduct and safeguarding framework, ensuring protection of vulnerable groups.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: BA/BSc in Rural Development, Business Administration, Development Economics, Economics, Market Systems Development, or related fields (MA/MSc desirable)

Experience: 3–5 years in INGOs, with direct MSD and livelihoods framework implementation experience

Donor Exposure: Experience with EU/EC‑funded projects

Skills: Strong financial coordination, SME incubation, stakeholder management, and problem‑solving abilities
