Regional Liaison Officer – Job Vacancy

Organization: Self Help Africa
Location: Bahir Dar, with frequent travel to project woredas
Employment Type: Contract (One year, renewable depending on funding)

Organisation Overview

Self Help Africa (SHA), established in 1984, is an international development organisation working through agriculture and agri‑enterprise development to address hunger, poverty, social inequality, and the impacts of climate change. SHA’s mission is to alleviate hunger and poverty through community‑led, market‑based, and enterprise‑focused approaches.


Job Purpose

The Regional Liaison Officer will support the implementation of the project “Provide an integrated package of climate‑adaptive livelihood support, anticipatory action and climate services for at‑risk communities, particularly small‑scale producers, other value chain actors, women and young people in Amhara region.”

The role involves managing project officers and community development facilitators, liaising with regional partners, coordinating project activities, and ensuring effective communication with WFP sub‑offices and regional bureaus.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to proposal development and donor engagement.
  • Build networks and maintain relationships with regional, zonal, and woreda stakeholders.
  • Support project implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Supervise project officers and facilitators, providing technical guidance.
  • Lead capacity building on agriculture and livelihoods.
  • Ensure effective distribution of project inputs and compliance with procedures.
  • Promote gender equality, diversity, and social inclusion.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Represent SHA at regional and woreda levels.
  • Uphold safeguarding and accountability standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Advanced university degree in agriculture, crop production, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years in crop/livestock production, irrigation agronomy, food security, disaster risk reduction, and livelihood development projects.
  • Proven knowledge of smallholder farming systems in Amhara region.
  • Experience in proposal development and securing donor funding (UN, WFP, EU, etc.).
  • Strong skills in project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with GIS, remote sensing, and modern irrigation technologies.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to project sites.
