Job Summary
The Medical Doctor will assist medical staff in providing care and treatment to patients in the Mobile Medical and Nutrition Unit (MMU) across North Wollo sites. The role requires maintaining a high standard of care, supporting recovering health centers, and responding to intensive workloads in affected regions. The Doctor will also contribute to outbreak response, preventative health care, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide primary care to pediatric and adult patients for communicable and non‑communicable diseases.
- Conduct consultations, order and interpret lab tests, diagnose, and prescribe medications.
- Identify patients requiring emergency, secondary, or tertiary care and refer appropriately.
- Perform wound care and minor procedures using sterile techniques.
- Deliver antenatal, postnatal, and neonatal care in line with Ethiopian and international guidelines.
- Promote preventative health practices including immunization, nutrition, and hygiene.
- Report outbreak‑prone diseases to authorities and program managers.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records; contribute to weekly and monthly reports.
- Assist with translation of medical documents (English ↔ Amharic).
- Support rapid health assessments and participate in training sessions.
- Uphold infection control standards and safeguarding policies.
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- Doctorate Degree in Medicine from a recognized university; postgraduate degree in Internal Medicine preferred.
- Minimum 5–6 years’ experience in hospital or clinic settings, ideally in low‑resource environments.
Languages
- Proficiency in English and Amharic
- Knowledge of the regional language required; other national languages are an asset
