Position: Food Security & Livelihood Officer

Role Purpose

The Food Security & Livelihood (FSL) Officer is responsible for the day‑to‑day implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of FSL project activities. The role ensures correct beneficiary targeting, accountability, and effective delivery of food security and livelihood interventions in pastoral areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate FSL activities in assigned woredas.
  • Work closely with local government, partners, and communities to plan and coordinate activities.
  • Ensure correct beneficiary selection procedures and respond to community feedback.
  • Support community facilitators in planning daily activities.
  • Coordinate cash distribution activities with program, finance, MEAL, and logistics teams.
  • Train data collectors on monitoring tools and ensure data quality.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Organize community sensitization meetings on project objectives.
  • Document distribution data and maintain accurate beneficiary records.
  • Lead beneficiary selection processes and provide technical support to partners.

Qualifications & Experience

  • BA/BSc in Agriculture, Livelihoods, Rural Development, Economics, or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in livelihoods, food security, climate‑smart agriculture, NRM, DRR, or emergency interventions in NGOs.
  • Strong knowledge of cash transfer modalities and beneficiary selection criteria.
  • Experience in pastoral contexts, preferably Afar region; knowledge of Afar language mandatory.
  • Excellent report writing and English proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal, advocacy, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to travel and work in rural areas.
