Role Purpose
The WASH Officer will support the implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) activities under the ABA program. The role ensures effective delivery of safe water supply, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion interventions at community and facility levels.
This position contributes to improving access to clean water and sanitation in areas facing severe shortages and public health risks. The officer will work closely with government offices, health facilities, and community structures to monitor coverage, assess water quality, and promote safe, inclusive WASH services.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement WASH activities: water system rehabilitation, sanitation facility construction, hygiene promotion campaigns.
- Conduct site assessments, provide technical supervision, and ensure quality standards.
- Support operation and maintenance of WASH facilities.
- Engage communities to establish WASH committees and promote behaviour change.
- Ensure inclusion of vulnerable groups in WASH programming.
- Collect and report activity data; support MEAL processes and documentation.
- Participate in local coordination meetings and service mapping.
- Assess water quality with government teams; ensure safe drinking water.
- Monitor environmental impacts around health facilities and coordinate mitigation measures.
- Uphold safeguarding standards and accountability to affected populations.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Water Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in WASH programming (emergency or development).
- Strong field implementation skills; ability to work in remote and challenging environments.
Desirable:
- Experience in Wag Himra or similar contexts.
- Knowledge of community‑based approaches.
- Familiarity with humanitarian standards (Sphere, CHS, etc.).
