Job Purpose
The Tax Compliance Officer ensures the organization adheres to all Ethiopian tax laws and regulations. The role involves managing accurate and timely tax filings, maintaining compliance documentation, liaising with tax authorities, and advising on lawful tax planning strategies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tax Filing & Compliance

Prepare and file accurate tax returns including VAT, income tax, withholding tax, excise tax, etc., in line with ERCA deadlines

Maintain knowledge of Ethiopian tax legislation and updates from the Ministry of Revenues and ERCA

Conduct internal audits to identify compliance risks
2. Liaison & Reporting

Coordinate with external auditors and tax authorities during audits and assessments

Analyze financial transactions and reports to ensure correct tax treatment

Provide guidance to finance and other departments on tax matters
3. Documentation & Planning

Maintain proper records for all tax filings and correspondence with ERCA

Support tax planning and identify legal tax optimization opportunities

Handle correspondence and resolve queries or disputes raised by tax authorities
4. Training & Awareness

Train staff and raise awareness of tax compliance procedures within the organization
Qualifications & Skills
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in tax compliance or accounting, preferably in Ethiopia

Strong knowledge of Ethiopian tax laws and ERCA compliance procedures
-
Proficiency in tax reporting systems and financial software (e.g., Peachtree, ERP systems)

Excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork skills

Experience dealing with ERCA is highly desirable

ACCA or relevant certifications is a plus
