We are seeking a Travel and Accommodation Manager to lead and manage travel services for Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC. The role ensures cost-effective, compliant, and high-quality travel experiences for our employees.

Responsibilities

Role Purpose

  •  The Travel and Accommodation Manager is responsible for leading and managing end-to-end travel and accommodation services for both local and international STEP travelers. 
  • The role ensures cost optimization, compliance with travel policies, business continuity, and high-quality employee travel experience. The position provides strategic oversight, vendor management, and operational excellence across travel, accommodation, MICE, and related mobility services.

Key Accountabilities and Decision Ownership

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of all local and international travel and accommodation services, including flights, transfers, accommodation, MICE, training travel, and travel technology platforms.
  • Ensure optimization of travel and accommodation costs while maintaining service quality and business continuity.
  • Enforce adherence to travel policies, guidelines, and risk management requirements, including travel insurance and emergency response protocols.
  • Lead coordination with internal stakeholders to deliver seamless travel, accommodation, relocation, and transport services.
  • Oversee and manage relationships with travel and accommodation vendors, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met or exceeded.
  • Approve and oversee purchase orders, vendor invoicing, tracking, and on-time payments in collaboration with Supply Chain and Finance teams.
  • Review, analyses, and validate operational and financial travel reports; monitor vendor spending, trends, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Stay informed on emerging travel, accommodation, and mobility trends and introduce continuous improvements and innovative solutions.
  • Lead employee awareness and training on travel platforms, policies, and best practices.
  • Monitor local and international travel advisories, accommodation standards, destination updates, and supplier training opportunities.
  • Prepare and present weekly, monthly, and annual performance, financial, and risk management reports to senior leadership.

  • Exceptional employee travel experience with consistently positive feedback.
  • 99% availability and accuracy of travel and accommodation platforms and databases.
  • 100% compliance with travel policies, SLAs, and risk management requirements.
  • Quarterly supplier performance evaluations completed and actioned.
  • Timely submission of budgets and forecasts within agreed timelines.
  • 100% accuracy of operational, financial, and compliance reports.
  • Minimal to zero customer complaints and service disruptions.

Qualifications

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Travel Management, Logistics, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in travel, accommodation, relocation, or mobility management, with at least 1 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong background in corporate travel and accommodation management, including domestic and international operations.
  • Proven experience working with travel agencies, accommodation providers, and global distribution systems (GDS).
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasts, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Excellent knowledge of travel booking systems, e-travel platforms, and reservation technologies.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic; additional languages are an advantage.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills.
  • High customer orientation with the ability to balance employee experience and cost efficiency.
  • Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and lead cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and reporting tools.
