About UNDP & the Regional Programme

The UNDP Regional Programme for Africa (RP), based at the Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA) in Addis Ababa, supports countries across the continent by addressing shared regional and cross‑border development challenges. It complements Country Office efforts, strengthens regional cooperation, and advances UNDP’s development objectives in Africa.

The RP contributes to flagship initiatives in areas such as gender equality, climate security, and engagement in the Sahel. It also provides strategic, technical, and coordination support to UNDP Country Offices and regional institutions, including the African Union and Regional Economic Communities.

This internship offers graduate‑level students hands‑on exposure to programme coordination, partnership support, and knowledge management in a multicultural environment.


Position: Intern – Regional Programme Support

Key Responsibilities

1. Regional Programme Coordination Support

  • Assist in coordinating RP activities across thematic teams, hubs, and Country Offices.
  • Support organization of meetings, consultations, and workshops (agenda preparation, background notes, summaries).
  • Track follow‑up actions, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Facilitate information flow between RP and RSCA units.

2. Programme Planning, Implementation & Reporting Support

  • Assist with programme planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Support preparation and review of programme documents, briefs, donor reports, and updates.
  • Contribute to data collection, analysis, and compilation of inputs from thematic teams and Country Offices.
  • Provide administrative and analytical support to ensure timely delivery of outputs.

3. Knowledge Management & Product Development

  • Draft, edit, and format knowledge products (briefs, concept notes, presentations, summaries).
  • Document lessons learned, good practices, and innovations.
  • Maintain programme knowledge repositories and reference materials.
  • Support dissemination of knowledge products to internal and external audiences.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a postgraduate or final year of a bachelor’s programme in Development, Peace & Security, Social Sciences, Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Human Rights, or related fields.
  • No prior professional experience required; relevant field of study is essential.
  • Availability for 6 consecutive months.
  • Strong interest in international development, peacebuilding, and rule of law.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office and relevant applications).
  • Knowledge in project implementation or public relations is advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong editing and proofreading abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast‑paced environments.
