Position: Country Manager

Reports to: Country Director
Salary: Competitive, paid in ETB under Ethiopian terms and conditions
Duration: 6 months, with possibility of extension

Job Purpose

The Country Manager will provide dynamic leadership and management to BBC Media Action’s Ethiopia office, ensuring effective delivery of development projects that use media to address governance, youth, media literacy, and other issues. The role involves overseeing finance, operations, and administration, while maintaining compliance with donor rules and local regulations.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a diverse team, ensuring high standards of performance and integrity.
• Oversee finance, operations, and administration in line with donor and BBC guidelines.
• Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to BBC editorial standards.
• Identify and pursue new business development opportunities.
• Represent BBC Media Action to government, donors, media partners, and stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

Requirements:

• Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
• 5+ years in leadership/people management roles.
• 5+ years in office management/operations roles.
• Experience managing large donor‑funded projects in Ethiopia.
• Strong budget management and team leadership skills.
• Proven ability to build relationships with government, donors, and media partners.
• Experience in media or development sector preferred.
• Existing right to live and work in Ethiopia (no work permit support available).

Safeguarding:

• Mandatory training on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
• Police background check may be required.
