Position 1: Subregional Coordinator for Eastern Africa (Staff Position – D-1)
Deadline: May 21, 2026
Duration: Fixed term – 2 years, with possibility of extension
Grade Level: D-1
Key Responsibilities
- Lead FAO’s strategic planning and programme development in Eastern Africa.
- Represent FAO to the AU and UNECA.
- Coordinate subregional priorities in food security, nutrition, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and climate change.
- Manage multidisciplinary technical teams and oversee programme implementation.
- Mobilize resources and strengthen partnerships with governments, donors, civil society, and private sector.
- Ensure compliance with UN security policies and FAO’s environmental responsibility strategy.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in agriculture, fishery, forestry, or international relations.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience in development, resource mobilization, and management.
- Extensive leadership and managerial experience in international settings.
- Strong partnership experience with governments, NGOs, and international organizations.
- Working knowledge of English (Level C) and limited knowledge of another FAO language (Level B).
Position 2: Project Coordinator (AU-CDC HARMONIZE – Consultant)
Deadline: May 15, 2026
Duration: 11 months
Type: Non-staff consultancy
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate implementation of the AU-CDC HARMONIZE project to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response in Africa.
- Develop annual work plans, procurement, travel, and recruitment plans.
- Supervise implementing partners and ensure timely delivery of project results.
- Monitor and evaluate project activities, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with FAO rules.
- Build synergies with partners including AfDB, UNICEF, and AU-CDC.
- Provide technical leadership and manage financial and material resources.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, One Health, Epidemiology, or related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience managing multisectoral, multi-country projects.
- Working knowledge of English (Level C).
- Experience in animal health, One Health, and agrifood systems.
- Strong project management, monitoring, and evaluation skills.
