Global Insurance Company (S.C.) was established in March 1997 by 23 founding shareholders with an initial paid‑up capital of Birr 3.75 million. Over the years, the company has grown significantly, reaching Birr 150.6 million paid‑up capital and Birr 250 million authorized capital.
As of June 2020, GIC has 176 shareholders, total assets worth over Birr 413 million, and operates from its own headquarters located at Gobena Abba Tigu Street (Somale Tera), Addis Ababa. The company currently provides general insurance services through 21 branches and one contact office across Addis Ababa and other regions of Ethiopia.
