About the Role

The Laboratory Manager will provide strategic leadership and direction for Pharo Health Ethiopia’s laboratory department. This senior management role involves setting up and managing a modern medical laboratory, ensuring clinical excellence, patient satisfaction, and strong financial outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop expansion strategies for laboratory diagnostic services, including adoption of new technologies and quality assurance.
  • Contribute to organizational goals in line with Pharo Health’s strategic plan.
  • Lead clinical governance and policy development for laboratory operations.
  • Implement digital health strategies and manage Laboratory Information Systems (LIS/LIMS).

Operations

  • Supervise daily laboratory operations and optimize workflow.
  • Establish and enforce quality standards, safety programs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff.
  • Manage laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, and documentation.
  • Prepare and monitor departmental budgets, revenues, and expenses.
  • Oversee inventory and consumables management.
  • Track performance metrics and provide periodic reports.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related scientific field.
  • Postgraduate training in business or management is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant experience, with at least 4 years in management/supervisory roles.
  • Experience in clinical laboratories, preferably ISO-certified institutions.
  • Strong background in biosafety, infection control, and customer service.
  • Proven team management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry regulations and standards.
  • Experience introducing new machines, tests, or institutions is a plus.
