Role Overview

The Specialist, WASH Engineer will provide top‑level engineering oversight for water supply and small‑scale irrigation construction and rehabilitation projects. The role requires strong technical, supervisory, and communication skills to ensure quality results in drought and conflict‑affected communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise engineering oversight of water supply and irrigation construction/rehabilitation projects
• Review designs, specifications, bills of quantity, and construction standards
• Prepare takeoff sheets, payment certificates, and as‑built drawings with contractors
• Conduct frequent site visits to monitor quality and progress
• Provide corrective technical feedback and ensure community management sustainability
• Organize review meetings with WASH teams, consortium partners, and stakeholders
• Produce supervision plans, reports, technical assessments, and learning briefs

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: BSc/MSc in Water Engineering or related field
• Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years (with MSc) or 6 years (with BSc) in water engineering
  • Preferably with development or humanitarian organizations
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and EPANET/WATERCAD (mandatory)
  • Experience with statistical and data management tools
• Other Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
  • Fluency in English (Amharic proficiency is a plus)
  • Experience in drought/conflict‑affected areas is advantageous
