Role Overview
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Officer will ensure that food assistance delivered by WFP in Ethiopia meets the highest standards of safety, nutrition, and compliance. The role involves implementing FSQA policies, coordinating with supply chain and programme teams, and strengthening national food systems to safeguard beneficiary health and resilience.
Key Responsibilities

Policy Implementation: Adapt and implement FSQA policies aligned with WFP strategies.

Technical Guidance: Provide input to programme design, embedding food safety in all operations.

Risk Management: Implement protocols for rapid response to food safety concerns.

Supplier Compliance: Establish risk-based systems for supplier assessment and product specifications.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Build partnerships with UN agencies, NGOs, governments, and private sector.

Capacity Building: Support local producers, strengthen food standards agencies, labs, and inspection bodies.

Reporting & Knowledge Sharing: Prepare accurate reports and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.

Emergency Response: Act in assigned emergency response capacity when required.
Qualifications
- Advanced University Degree in Food Technology, Health Sciences, Nutrition, or related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in food safety, quality assurance, procurement, logistics, or supply chain management.
- Strong experience in food assistance programmes, emergency contexts, and regulatory negotiations.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills; fluency in English required.
- Perfect understanding of food import/export requirements and donor compliance.
