Job Summary
The Policy and Advocacy Lobbyist is responsible for HIV services advocacy, using a patient-centered, holistic approach, working with and for PLHIV, PLHIV association, government & non-government institutions in line with the country’s specific law and legislation. The Policy and Advocacy Lobbyist will be generating accurate information on advocacy issues, assist in designing HIV advocacy strategies, implement & follow planned activities and produce quality reports.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with AHF-Ethiopia Prevention Program Manager and the respective team to assist the HIV advocacy and promotion works; work closely with Civil Society Organizations, PLHIV, PLHIV associations, government & non-government institutions
  • Support the organization to identify important and timely advocacy issues that are believed to improve HIV prevention, treatment and care services
  • Assist with appropriate public promotion for AHF services
  • The advocacy and lobbyist will also be required to establish and maintain respectable work relationships with other organizations working on HIV/AIDS prevention & care programs
  • Work with AHF’s Medical Team to maintain the highest quality of client care and enhance positive living among  patients
  • Represent AHF-Ethiopia in advocacy and promotion related task forces, working groups, committees, etc. as required
  • Ensure that the relevant procedures for training, meeting, workshops and other activities are well organized
  • Ensure all records of the Advocacy Services are well documented and kept up-to-date
  • Ensure that the Advocacy Service are run according to relevant policies and procedures of the Ethiopian Government and AIDS Healthcare Foundation
  • Work with the Prevention Program Manager in exploring new opportunities for the advocacy service
  • Contribute to the design and updating of publicity materials for the organization’s service
  • Network and liaise where appropriate with other professionals and institutions having shared interest with AHF
  • Provide weekly case updates to line manager on advocacy cases, and prioritize and manage cases in line with quality standards
  • Collaborate with the Country Management Team in preparing work-plan and budget
 

Job Requirements:

  • MSc/MPH/MA degree in Health/HIV, Social Science or other relevant field from a recognized university with more than 5 years’ experience in a field directly related to advocacy, health and above specified responsibilities
  • Solid knowledge and experience on advocacy techniques and principles
  • Thorough understanding of media utilization for advocacy and lobbying
  • Flexible, proactive and able to organize work independently as well as work in a team
  • Results oriented and exposure to environments that require working under pressure
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal communication abilities with good command of  English Language
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
